Landing and Take-off Cycle Emissions Estimator

Supporting our stakeholders in monitoring and reporting aviation emissions.

Log in Access conditions

The Landing and Take-Off (LTO) Cycle Emissions Estimator allows users to quickly and easily access estimated fuel consumption, CO2 and NOx emissions related to aircraft operation on the ground and in the vicinity of airports up to 3,000 ft above ground level.

The tool was developed by EUROCONTROL to assist stakeholders in assessing the impact of flight operations on emissions, and to support their reporting for both voluntary and legislative emissions reduction programmes. The tool covers all the airports in the EUROCONTROL area. All Airport Corner users from Airport Operators and ANSPs have automatic access. The users can access their own data for their respective airport(s), which is updated on a daily basis and contains 5 years of historical data.

The LTO EE is based on the work done by EUROCONTROL on the Fuel Burn and Emissions Inventory System (FEIS) procedure. The LTO EE improves the FEIS procedure by using the best available data on taxi times, automating the process and making the statistics available to external stakeholders in a timely manner. Network Manager’s flight data is used together with different engine databases, including ICAO Aircraft Engine Emissions Databank. Airports integrated with the Network Manager (i.e. AOP/NOP, A-CDM and Advanced ATC TWR airports) benefit from early availability of precise taxi time data per individual flight, thereby improving the accuracy of the estimates. For other airports, accurate taxi time data becomes available only after several weeks and initially Network Manager’s estimates or standard times may be used.

A ’What-if’ component allows the user to model the impact of different parameters on fuel burn, emissions and fuel costs with the focus on ground operation. One of the benefits of the tool is that the same emissions calculation method and the same sources of data are used across the ECAC area. The benchmarking page offers the user an overview of their airport's performance in the context of other airports within the same category.
