Scarce resources management

Making the best use of the limited resources essential to aviation.

About

Traffic over Europe is already at record levels and will continue growing over the next twenty years.

To safely accommodate this growth, it is essential to manage scarce resources like radio frequency bands, secondary surveillance radar (SSR) codes and Mode S interrogator codes sustainably.

EUROCONTROL's knowhow of the complex and dense nature of Europe’s airspace helps to bring significant benefits to managing scarce resources at the network level. Since 2011, when this duty was first given to EUROCONROL as Network Manager (NM), there have been significant improvements in all key areas – Radio frequency function (RFF) requests are satisfied 558 days sooner and request satisfaction in the congested areas has risen from 53% to 100% (2016).
