Network Operations Report – October 2018

Traffic in October 2018 increased by 4.1% compared to October 2017 and was in line with the high forecast. Twelve states added more than 50 flights daily to the network with Germany, Spain and Italy as the top contributors.

Total ATFM delays increased by 34.8% in October 2018 compared to October 2017. En-route ATFM delays (38,792 min/daily) increased by 50.3% mainly due to ATC capacity/staffing; airport ATFM delays (18,853 min/daily) increased by 11.2% mainly due to airport weather/capacity. The average daily flights with an en-route ATFM delay of at least 15 minutes increased by 93.1% compared to October 2017.

Opening ceremony of the new Istanbul airport on 29 October.


  • High ATC capacity delays in Karlsruhe UAC;
  • High ATC staffing delays in Marseille ACC with 64% of its delays during weekends ;
  • Seasonal weather impacted Barcelona ACC.


  • Storm conditions impacted operations strongly at Barcelona airport on 14 October;
  • Seasonal weather impacted London airports.

The average en-route ATFM delay per flight in the NM area in October was 1.22 min/flt, which is well above the corresponding monthly guideline value of 0.35 min/flt. The average YTD en-route ATFM delay per flight in 2018 in the NM area is 1.93 min/flt which is more than three times the corresponding guideline value of 0.54 min/flt.
