Seven-year Forecast of Flight Movements and Service Units - Autumn 2019

Our autumn 2019 update to the EUROCONTROL seven-year flight and service units forecast reflects the recent changes in Europe's aviation sector. It replaces the previous forecast report published in February 2019.

As a consequence of 2019's industry slowdown and downward-revised economic outlook we are revising down our forecasts.

The updated forecasts for IFR movements are:

base forecast growth rate of IFR movementh (±0.4pp).

11.1 million

base increase in flight numbers forecast.

2.3 %

base forecast growth rate of IFR movementh (±1.7pp)

11.4 million

base increase in flight numbers forecast.

1.8 %

base average annual growth rate of IFR movements (±1.2pp) over seven-year period.

12.5 million

base flight numbers forecast for 2025.

IFR traffic in Europe

Our graph shows the gradual increase in IFR traffic in Europe starting between 1960 and 2018, as well as our new low, base and high forecasts until 2025.
