Overall, in 2024 traffic (measured in the number of flights) between these regions grew 21% year-on-year and reached 8% above 2019 levels. On average there were 858 daily flights, representing 2.4% of APAC traffic and 3.0% of ECAC traffic.
A number of factors have resulted in very significant differences in how traffic has developed, for example:
- whether flights are cargo or passenger,
- whether we consider the Asian part of ECAC (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye) or the European part, and also
- whether we look at airlines that still overfly Russia or those that avoid that airspace.
There are also significant differences between the major countries in APAC – India’s traffic with ECAC was 30% up on 2019 and Japan’s was 25% down. Much more information and analysis can be found in the full report.
