Potential savings

The 146 improvement measures implemented since AIRAC 1811 could have led to:

207,500 NMs

flown less on shortest available route

1,245 tonnes

less fuel used

4,150 tons

less CO2 emitted

Real-world performance

Based on our filed flight plan indicator, the actual situation during AIRAC 1911 was:

374,000 NMs

flown more compared to shortest available route

2,244 tonnes

more fuel used

7,480 tons

more CO2 emitted

Key reasons

Potential causes having an impact on flight planning/ airline choices:

  • Geopolitical (Ukraine, Libya and Syria);
  • Regulations due to capacity/ staffing problems in the network;
  • Traffic composition/ demand;
  • Industrial action;
  • Weather (several key ANSPs were affected by traffic re-routing);
  • Financial (fluctuation of route charges over Europe).
