This Specification defines the services, operational procedures and system requirements associated with SMAS. It establishes a common framework for the implementation of Surveillance and Alerting Services, supporting enhanced situational awareness and safety in airport surface operations. The Specification addresses the provision and use of SMAS Services, system characteristics, operational procedures and the responsibilities of the actors involved.
Edition 1.0 introduces a new EUROCONTROL Specification developed in cooperation with European ANSPs, airports, authorities and industry partners as part of the EUROCONTROL A SMGCS Working Group arrangement. It establishes a common framework for the implementation of SMAS Services and incorporates lessons learned from operational trials, simulations and existing surveillance and alerting concepts used at European aerodromes.
