EUROCONTROL has released an authoritative factsheet on the impact of COVID-19 on aviation in Italy.
“Italy has lost around 700,000 flights compared to 2019 and over a hundred and ten million passengers. Flights to/from/within Italy are currently 70% down on last year and the number of passengers is 83% down. Although we saw some recovery in the summer, traffic is again falling at present.”
The briefing includes information on airports, the major airlines, market segments and traffic flows, including:
- Last week Rome Fiumicino and Milan Malpensa flights were 76% and 66% down on last year
- Alitalia/Ryanair/easyJet flights were 78%/56%/95% down on 2019
- Domestic flights were less affected (46% down) than European flows (-68%)
