EUROCONTROL has released an authoritative factsheet on the impact of COVID-19 on aviation in Germany.

. The briefing (attached) provides key facts and graphics and is one of a series covering the impact of the crisis on countries across the EUROCONTROL Network.

Germany has lost nearly a million flights compared to 2019 and over a hundred and fifty million passengers. Flights to/from/within Germany are currently 65% down on last year and the number of passengers is 83% down. Although we saw some recovery in the summer, traffic is again falling at present.

The briefing includes information on airports, the major airlines, market segments and traffic flows, including:

  • Last week Frankfurt and Munich flights were 62% and 69% down on last year;
  • Lufthansa/Eurowings flights were 68%/80% down on 2019 while DHL Express flights increased by 14%;
  • Domestic flights were slightly less affected (50% down) than other flows.
