The draft fourth edition of the EUROCONTROL Specification for European Mode S Station applies to Mode S ground stations used for Surveillance functions. The station detailed in this document provides Elementary and Enhanced Surveillance Services to ATC through use of Mode S Specific Services, particularly Ground Initiated Comm-B and Mode S Comm-B Broadcast, and Mode S Extended Squitters (ADS-B). This draft edition also includes new functions to decrease the Mode S interrogations and to optimize the use of the 1030/1090 MHz frequency band.
