The AVENIR WG comprises experts from ANSPs, industry alliances and institutions. It aims to offer practical support to stakeholders by developing transparent, actionable and harmonised approaches to environmental performance monitoring and mitigation across ATM operations.
The AVENIR Working Group was established as a continuation of the ATM/ANS Environmental Transparency Working Group, under the EASA-EUROCONTROL Joint Work Programme.
Its purpose is to further develop proposals on how air traffic management (ATM) and air navigation services (ANS) providers can increase environmental transparency and demonstrate efforts to support aviation’s climate objectives.
Deliverables
The work of the Working Group is divided into three main pillars:
Pillar 1 focuses on developing and refining environmental performance indicators to better capture ANSP contributions to flight efficiency and environmental impact reduction.
Pillar 3 explores the non-CO₂ impacts of aviation, especially contrail mitigation, and assesses ANSP roles, methodologies and capabilities in contributing to reduced climate effects beyond CO₂ emissions.
Each pillar is documented in a dedicated report, structured to provide insights into objectives, methodologies, stakeholder engagement, key findings and future recommendations.
