Automated radar data conversion

In early 1992 it was recognised by the RASS-P development and radar evaluation teams that format converter production and maintenance was fast becoming a very time consuming activity. Although conversion should be straightforward, little problems often cause huge amounts of work. Hence it was realised that maybe this activity could be structured and possibly even automated.

The main objective of the project was to arrive at a general purpose radar format converter to be operated by non-specialist personnel. A feasibility study was carried out, where a special language RADDEL and associated compiler, optimizer, and C-code generator were developed. The requirements and design were subject to critical reviews by all parties involved. A prototype version of the tool has been built and the project has proved to be feasible. The study concludes with recommendations to arrive at a full working version.
