All-causes delay to air transport in Europe for May 2019

In May 2019 the average delay per flight on departure was 12.0 minutes per flight. This was a decrease of 3.4 minutes per flight when compared to May 2018 where the average delay per flight was 15.4 minutes.

In regard to arrivals the average delay per flight on arrival was 11.6 minutes per flight, a decrease of 3.1 minutes per flight. Arrival punctuality also improved, with 78.3% of flights arriving within 15 minutes or earlier than the scheduled arrival time (STA).

Traffic increased by 1.1% when compared to May 2018. Concerning airports, thunderstorms affected Frankfurt Main on 20 May, Amsterdam Schiphol suffered from capacity delays following the implementation of a new electronic flight strip system. Athens saw delays following runway works in progress. Regarding en-route, there were capacity delays at Karlsruhe, Langen, Vienna, Bremen and Budapest ACCs. French ATC industrial action also occurred from 08 May to 10 May.
