Airspace model simulation of Santa Maria OACC

This report describes a simulation study of Santa Maria OACC using the EUROCONTROL Airspace Model on behalf of ANA-EP, the Portuguese Civil Aviation Authority.The study evaluated the effects of proposed new sectorisation and manning configurations pertinent to the introduction of new CAE system equipment in the Santa Maria OACC. These proposals, coupled with alternatives suggested in extra exercises identified the importance of the strategic allocation of support controller(s) to a sector or sectors as a preference to increasing the number of sectors manned solely by an executive controller. They also provided favourable balances in inter-sector workloads and traffic distribution and showed the capability to handle 2005 forecast traffic levels.
