Harmonised forecast of adverse weather

A set of new MET services will provide resilient, single source and harmonized adverse weather forecast products within Europe, including convection, icing, turbulence and winter conditions.

EUROCONTROL is supporting the deployment of new high resolution MET services by the European MET Services (EUMETNET), which will provide resilient, single source and harmonized adverse weather forecast products within Europe, including convection, icing, turbulence and winter conditions.

The project will:

  • Deploy to operational standards of accuracy and resilience, harmonised forecasts of convection, icing, turbulence and winter weather serving 5 of the highest capacity airports within Europe, and at the interface of 2 FABs and 6 Area Control Centres (applicable for convection products).
  • Integrate and process Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) data from DWD, Météo France, UK Met Office and FMI to provide a harmonised quality controlled single source forecast for convection, icing, turbulence and winter weather, as validated in SESAR1.
  • Provide a resilient, harmonised quality controlled SWIM compliant data source for common situational awareness of adverse meteorological conditions to all stakeholders.
  • Provide a deployment toolkit for the above service(s).
