EUROCONTROL and ICAO: strengthening partnership for aviation training

EUROCONTROL ICAO training partnership signing

EUROCONTROL and ICAO strengthened their partnership for training aviation professionals worldwide today.

A new agreement was signed in Montreal by EUROCONTROL Director General Raúl Medina and ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar, building on EUROCONTROL’s role as a Corporate Partner in the ICAO TRAINAIR Plus programme.

Globally, the aviation sector is facing a challenge to recruit and retain professionals. The new training course will focus on mentoring, which is one of the most efficient tools for supporting anyone starting an aviation career, especially for those people from under-represented groups. As mentoring helps people to grow in their chosen careers, it will make aviation more attractive both for junior and middle-level professionals.

The training programme is part of the ICAO Next Generation of Aviation Professionals (NGAP) programme, which aims to ensure the availability of sufficient human resources to assure the sustainable development of the global flight network.

“We are proud to be working with ICAO to support our stakeholders with a pragmatic, efficient and expert course that will help them to develop, deploy and manage a successful mentoring programme on local level. This course is part of our global approach to support our stakeholders and ensure that aviation careers are available to as many diverse groups as possible.”

“Global aviation needs everyone who has the ability and the motivation to pursue the highly rewarding career paths offered by our industry. ICAO is fully committed to help open these pathways to all, especially by breaking down barriers to participation. Our cooperation with EUROCONTROL on mentoring will provide an important boost to our efforts in this area.”

Juan Carlos Salazar Secretary General ICAO

The training course will be rolled out on global level with EUROCONTROL leading for its delivery in Europe and ICAO managing the world-wide courses. The target audiences for the first wave of courses are people working in the aviation sector in particular in the fields of HR, human factors specialists, and DEI.

About ICAO

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is a United Nations agency which helps 193 countries to cooperate together and share their skies to their mutual benefit.

Since it was established in 1944, ICAO’s support and coordination has helped countries to diplomatically and technically realize a uniquely rapid and dependable network of global air mobility, connecting families, cultures, and businesses all over the world, and promoting sustainable growth and socio-economic prosperity wherever aircraft fly.

As it enters a new era of digitization, and of incredible new flight and propulsion innovations, air transport is relying more than ever on ICAO’s expert support and technical and diplomatic guidance to help chart a new and exciting future for international flight. ICAO is innovating itself to answer this call, and expanding its partnerships among UN and technical stakeholders to deliver a strategic global vision and effective, sustainable solutions.
