Airservices Australia and EUROCONTROL partner to enhance airspace management with LARA

9 January 2025 - Airservices Australia and EUROCONTROL today announced a landmark agreement to implement the LARA system in Australia. LARA, which stands for Local and Regional Airspace Management System, is a EUROCONTROL’s state-of-the-art software platform providing a comprehensive suite of tools for airspace management and coordination, enabling seamless collaboration between civil and military aviation actors.

The implementation of LARA in Australia will bring a number of benefits, including:

Improved coordination: LARA will facilitate real-time information sharing and coordination between civil and military airspace users, leading to better decision-making and reduced conflicts.
Increased efficiency: By optimising airspace utilisation, LARA will support military training and operations while minimising delays, reducing fuel consumption and lowering environmental impact.
Enhanced safety: LARA's advanced features, such as conflict detection and resolution, will contribute to a safer airspace environment for all users.

The implementation of LARA in Australia is expected to begin in 2025 and is supported by EUROCONTROL's Civil-Military Cooperation Division.
