Our data

Traffic

In our role as Network Manager, we collect detailed data on flights, both what was planned and also what actually took place. This is essential for our work to optimise the efficiency of the network and to minimise delays, while maintaining Europe’s remarkably high safety record. Here you can check the latest number of flights across the European ATM network, which are updated daily, and see the traffic evolution over the last year, six and three months as well as one month.

Delays

Our Central Office for Delay Analysis (CODA) gathers data and analyses the total delays experienced by passengers, for all causes, as shown in these graphics.

Note: ATFM delay of a flight is categorised into IATA Delay Codes. The individual delay codes can then be included in delay groups for clarity and better analysis, as was done here.

Air traffic flow management (ATFM) delays

Flow and capacity management delays are analysed in more detail by the EUROCONTROL Network Manager as part of their monitoring of network performance.

Sustainability

Data collection, monitoring and development is a key part of our contribution to support aviation in its goal to reduce noise, CO2 and other emissions, as well as condensation trails.

En-route unit rates

European air traffic management is funded by airspace users, with flights being charged according to the size of the aircraft and the distance flown within each EUROCONTROL Member State. The unit rates of en-route charges are established and levied by the individual EUROCONTROL Member States, and adjusted every month if the national currency of a Member State is not the Euro.

EUROCONTROL collects route charges using a centralised system, which cuts down on administrative costs and fraud. Here's what it currently costs to cross our Member States.

Using the latest traffic data, the European Aviation Overview provides a detailed snapshot of the latest network picture.

EUROCONTROL Forecast 2023-2029

EUROCONTROL's 2024-2030 forecast, last updated in February 2024, predicts 10.6 million flights in 2024, an all-year recovery to 96% of 2019 pre-pandemic traffic levels.
