The EUR RVSM Implementation Project - Environmental Benefit Analysis
This study aims to analyse the environmental effect of the implementation of RVSM in the EUR RVSM airspace. Investigations have been made especially for reduction in fuel burn, CO2, H2O, and NOx emissions. The methodology was based on a comparison of fuel burn and emission production for three January, 2002, traffic days before and after implementation. To overcome possible effects just after implementation, in addition traffic days from July, 2002, have been analysed. The Advanced Emission Model (AEM3) developed at the EUROCONTROL Experimental Centre has been used to estimate aviation emissions and fuel burn. An improved version (EEC-BM2) of the Boeing Method2 (BM2) lead to more reliable in-flight NOx emission estimations.
