European Route Network Improvement Plan (ERNIP) - Monitoring Report - AIRAC 1713

The ERNIP Monitoring Report informs our partners of major projects implemented on AIRAC 1713 (effective 7 December 2017) which further improves airspace design and utilizes flight efficiency.

The list below provides an overview of the key improvements implemented on 7 December 2017:

  • Albania - FRALB - Free Route Airspace Albania - Phase 2.
  • Armenia - ARMFRA Free Route Airspace Yerevan ACC.
  • Maastricht UAC - FRAM2 Project - Phase 1.
  • Slovenia - RNAV 1 procedures Ljubljana TMA.
  • Switzerland - ACC Zurich - Sector West Re-Organization - Step 1.

Thanks to the airspace enhancements implemented during AIRAC 1713 as well as the airspace design improvements put in place since AIRAC 1613 in connection with changing traffic patterns and structure, the additional, potential savings offered during the AIRAC cycle 1713 amount to 39,300 NMs flown less compared with the equivalent AIRAC cycle in 2016. This translates into 236 tons of fuel, or 786 tons of CO2, or € 196,500.

Based on the last filed flight plan indicator and as a result of the airspace design improvements put in place since AIRAC 1613 in connection with changing traffic patterns and the airline choices made, the actual gains calculated during the AIRAC cycle 1713 amount to 60 000 NMs flown less compared to the equivalent AIRAC cycle in 2016. This translates into 360 tons of fuel, or 1,200 tons of CO2, or € 300,000.

No losses are recorded on the last filed flight plan data during AIRAC cycle 1713 compared to the equivalent AIRAC cycle in 2016. The actual savings recorded are a product of airspace design improvement measures in connection with the varying flight planning choices of the airline operators. The actual savings are additionally impacted by varying traffic compositions, scenarios applied due to capacity problems in the network as well as special events.
