Peggy Devestel joins EUROCONTROL as Director Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre

Peggy Devestel

As Director of EUROCONTROL’s Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre (MUAC) from 1 October 2024, Peggy Devestel is responsible for one of the best performing and cost-effective air navigation service providers (ANSPs) in Europe. MUAC is unique in being Europe’s only cross-border, civil-military ANSP, managing the busy and complex upper airspace over Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and north-west Germany.

In an aviation career spanning over 32 years, she brings to the role a wealth of operational experience, and proven strategic delivery. After successfully qualifying as an air traffic controller with Belgocontrol, the Belgian ANSP (today known as skeyes), she went from a tower ATC to en-route ATC, Chief ATCO and ATC Expert, before moving into management in 2010 to take on a series of challenges with increasing responsibility. She was first appointed ATS regions manager coordinating operational services; then, as Customer Affairs Manager, was tasked with optimising service provision to airports, airlines and airspace users. In 2015, she joined Belgocontrol’s executive team as Director General Operations in 2015, and from 2018 until joining EUROCONTROL, occupied the role of Chief Operations Officer at skeyes managing their operational, technical and meteorological services for their en-route centre, Brussels tower and ATC at five regional Belgian airports.

"Peggy is a highly experienced aviation leader with an in-depth understanding of ANS provision, and a proven track record in relationship-building with key aviation actors, from fellow ANSPs within and beyond FABEC, to partner organisations, airports, airspace users and the military. Her experience working closely with international and national organisations on operational and technical matters, most recently as skeyes’ Chief Operations Officer, makes Peggy a very strong choice as our new Director MUAC."
