New #thinkNetwork video on why prioritising first rotation is vital to keep delays down

EUROCONTROL’s latest #thinkNetwork video explains why it is vital that the first flight of the day leaves on time. This creates a positive momentum for later flights, and plays a significant role in keeping delays down at network level – each minute of delay for the first rotation can be quadrupled by the time of the last rotation, and knock-on delays mount, risking night curfew issues.

The video is part of the EUROCONTROL Network Manager’s #thinkNetwork campaign, which seeks to highlight the impact that local decisions have on the network as a whole.

The campaign focuses on a set of five priorities for operational actors to follow in order to minimise disruption to the European air traffic network during the busy summer period.

Besides prioritising first rotation, the other four priorities are:

  • disciplined flight plan execution to ensure predictability
  • delivering agreed capacities
  • realistic schedules including turnaround times
  • adverse weather management.

The #thinkNetwork campaign also includes a webtool and a comprehensive guide for flight dispatchers, pilots, air traffic controllers, flow management positions and airports to ensure all operational actors are aware of these priorities.
