Maastricht UAC opens its doors to inspire the next generation of air traffic controllers

Young boys and girls at the Maastricht UAC (MUAC) open day 2019

The EUROCONTROL Maastricht Upper Control Centre is opening its doors to young women and men interested in pursuing a career in air traffic management. This time, in pre-celebration of International Women's Day, we are putting a gender balance twist to our invitation as part of our initiatives to help the aviation sector's diversification.

Our objective for this fifth open day is to capture the imagination of women and men interested in working in the aviation sector and to raise interest and motivate young people to apply to become controllers. Registrations are open to nationals of EUROCONTROL Member States who are between 17 and 24 years old.

What to expect

The programme includes:

  • welcome and introduction to MUAC and air traffic control;
  • visiting the simulator and hands-on sessions;
  • learning more about the application procedure and training;
  • chat with controllers and controller students;
  • tour of the building and recreational facilities.

A gender diversity focus

Our all-female crew will guide our participants through the MUAC experience. Our aim is to welcome just as many, if not more, women to this event in an effort to balance out our usual open day 70-30% gender split.

Men interested in becoming controllers and who support women in aviation are also welcome, of course!

If they prefer to give the opportunity to women this time, they can save the date of our future Open Days planned for 16 May and 19 September 2020.

Registrations are now open. Spread the word!

All 17 - 24 year old EUROCONTROL Member State nationals are welcome.
