Global Action Plan for the Prevention of Runway Incursions: Part II now out

Aircraft taking off

Runway incursions are among the most persistent threats to aviation safety. GAPPRI, the newly published Global Action Plan for the Prevention of Runway Incursions, is a roadmap for addressing risk and instilling resilience, enabling governments and industry not only to cope with increases in traffic, but also to be proactive in anticipating and addressing problems.

Under the leadership of ICAO, IATA, ACI WORLD, CANSO, EUROCONTROL and the Flight Safety Foundation, more than 100 organisations have contributed to GAPPRI.

Its findings and recommendations are based on an analysis of multiple global and regional datasets, combined with insights garnered from ops expertise. This strategy extends beyond the study of only hazardous events; the recommendations incorporate lessons from all operations – operations in which everything goes right as well as those in which something goes wrong.

GAPPRI builds on the legacy of our experience in Europe with EAPPRI, the European Action Plan for the Prevention of Runway Incursions, and complements it with work from other global actors from the US, Canada, South America and Asia.

GAPPRI Part II provides explanatory and guidance material, and related best practices for the recommendations listed in GAPPRI Part I.
