EUROCONTROL hosts 5ᵗʰ General Assembly of the Alliance for Zero-Emission Aviation (AZEA)

5th General Assembly of AZEA

EUROCONTROL welcomed the 5th General Assembly of the Alliance for Zero-Emission Aviation (AZEA) today at its Brussels Headquarters.

Launched by the European Commission in 2022, AZEA is a voluntary initiative that brings together both private and public sector to pave the way for the introduction of hydrogen-powered and electric aircraft into commercial service. At the General Assembly, the Alliance, representing over 190 stakeholder organisations, including aircraft manufacturers, airlines, airports, energy providers, fuel suppliers, standardisation and certification bodies, environmental and passenger advocacy groups as well as regulators, presented its Work Plan for 2025-2026, emphasising the commitment to delivering a Roadmap for the ecosystem by the end of 2025.

As an active member of AZEA, EUROCONTROL leverages its exclusive air traffic data and advanced modelling capabilities to aid in the integration of zero-emission aircraft into the European network. This involves providing forecasts to assist in defining rollout scenarios, identifying operational and financial incentives for flights using these aircraft, and evaluating fuelling requirements and green energy needs across the network.

Welcoming participants at the event, our Director European Green Sky Tânia Cardoso Simões, highlighted:

5th AZEA General Assembly - Tânia Cardoso Simões

"EUROCONTROL is proud to be part of the Alliance Zero Emission Aircraft, an exciting sustainability initiative that is crucial for shaping the future of European aviation. The introduction of zero emission aircraft is not just about improving existing operations, but about breaking barriers and having a bold vision. The AZEA vision, launched last year, guides us towards sustainable aviation.

"Fully committed to this initiative, at EUROCONTROL we are actively supporting the transition to sustainable, zero-emission technologies with services like the FlyingGreen platform, which provides stakeholders with the tools and information needed to decarbonise and adapt to climate change."

"Our goal is to help the Alliance take informed decision to facilitate the seamless integration of these innovative aircraft technologies into Europe’s future air traffic system. Together, with the efforts of all of the Alliance members, we can drive the change needed for a sustainable aviation industry."
