The highlight of the event will be the executive panel discussion between EUROCONTROL’s Director General Eamonn Brennan, Alexandre de Juniac, Director General and CEO of IATA, Luis Felipe de Oliveira, Director General, Airports Council International (ACI) and Simon Hocquard, Director General, Civil Air Navigation Services Organization (CANSO).
This year’s forum, which owing to the pandemic is being held for the first time virtually, is dedicated to airport safety, and to runway excursions, which have been tackled comprehensively in the recently published new Global Action Plan for the Prevention of Runway Excursion (GAPPRE) . Drafted with the help of an international team of more than 100 aviation professionals from more than 40 organizations GAPPRE was coordinated by EUROCONTROL and the Flight Safety Foundation, validated by EASA, IATA, CANSO and ACI World, and directly addresses one of the most serious risks in aviation, one that comprised 23% of accidents between 2005 and the first half of 2019 according to IATA (International Air Transport Association) data.
