Vertical Flight Efficiency Workshop

26 November 2018

Vertical flight efficiency in Europe is a topic that is still very much under discussion. In order to better understand all the ramifications, the Performance Review Commission (PRC) of EUROCONTROL has developed methodologies to analyse vertical flight efficiency in the climb/descent and en-route phases. The results were included in the annual Performance Review Report and are published each month on the PRU web portal.

Given the public interest in the topic, the PRC will hold a workshop on Monday, 26 November from 9:15 to 16:00 at our Brussels headquarters to discuss a number of case studies which have been selected for detailed examination.

The objectives of the workshop are to:

  • evaluate the specific underlying causes for vertical inefficiencies (policy issues, airspace management, demand-capacity balancing, etc),
  • determine as far as possible the different stakeholders’ individual contributions to vertical flight (in)efficiency and
  • highlight a number of best practices.
