SESAR 3 ATC-TBO Open Days Event

Banner

The ATC-TBO (Air Traffic Control - Trajectory Based Operations) SESAR 3 JU project is approaching its finalisation, and the partners would like to share key conclusions, recommendations and outcomes.

To this end, we are pleased to invite you to two dedicated open days, which will take place at EUROCONTROL’s Innovation Hub (EIH) from 10-11 June 2026.

Coordinated by EUROCONTROL, the two-day event will bring together key SESAR partners and ATM stakeholders (ANSPs, airlines, industry representatives, etc.) to showcase the project’s final results, including live demonstrations, operational use cases and trajectory-based operations research outcomes. The Open Days will provide a platform for operational exchanges and discussions on how ATC-TBO supports future deployment perspectives, including the Digital European Sky vision and ongoing Common Project 2 (CP2) initiatives.

The two-day event will be the opportunity to:

  • discover project results and live demonstrations;
  • exchange operational feedback and perspectives;
  • discuss future developments linked to trajectory-based operations;
  • network with key stakeholders across the ATM community involved in TBO.

Background

The SESAR 3 ATC-TBO project aims to validate trajectory-based operations use cases for optimised flight profiles, supporting sustainable air traffic growth. By downlinking airborne trajectories with enhanced conflict detection and resolution tools, and supported by lateral and vertical clearances, air traffic controllers can better anticipate aircraft trajectories. This enables continuous climb and descent operations with fewer tactical interventions and level-offs, reducing controller workload and optimising flight profiles. The project focuses on TBO use cases in the tactical execution phase for en-route and TMA operations, contributing to the finalisation of SESAR Phase C developed in SESAR 2020 and the realisation of the Digital European Sky vision in SESAR Phase D. It aims to validate performance benefits in terms of environmental impact, operational efficiency, capacity, safety, and cost efficiency. Key stakeholders, including flight crews and air traffic controllers, will be closely engaged to ensure operational acceptability, particularly regarding advanced automation aspects.

Target audience and event format

The two-day event will be onsite and is aimed at ATM stakeholders including ANSPs, airlines, industry partners, and institutional representatives.

The programme will include live demonstrations, presentations from partners, and interactive discussions.

There will also be the possibility to follow online all the sessions except for the demonstrations. If you would like to attend online, please use the registration form and indicate “Online attendance” in the question “Any specific expectations or suggestions regarding topics to be addressed?”. The Teams link to connect will be shared with you a few days before the event.
