High-level conference on artificial intelligence

How is it going to impact the air transport sector?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is finding uses across a variety of industries to power new ways of doing business. As an enabler of disruptive innovations, AI shows promise in improving many aspects in the aviation sector. Thus, it is key to understand the potential of this new technology and to harness it to drive innovation.

With this in mind, we are organising, in collaboration with Airbus, a conference on Artificial Intelligence and its impact on air transport - Thursday, 23 May 2019 at our Brussels headquarters.

Our great line-up of high-level decision-makers from across the aviation and tech industries will help us understand how we can collectively use the power of AI to the benefit of aviation in the short and medium terms.

Objectives

The objectives of the conference are to:

  • provide a state of the art overview of the latest developments in the field of artificial intelligence and its application to business developments both inside and outside aviation;
  • identify specific AI challenges that could affect aviation (e.g. change of business models, actors etc.);
  • discuss the potential for AI to address aviation challenges (capacity, environment, safety/security, societal benefits) and the necessary time horizon;
  • identify non-regulatory activities that European aviation stakeholders would like to progress together (from research to deployment, including new types of initiatives).

Panels

The event will be structured around two high-level panels on:

  • the direction in which AI is heading according to our panellists and how it is being applied to drive business growth outside the aviation sector;
  • the potential for AI to drive a change in aviation business models, identifying key issues and challenges such as pilotless aircraft and automated ATC.
