Global Civil-Military Aviation Summit

In collaboration with
ICAO
Global Civil-Military cooperation Summit

EUROCONTROL, in cooperation with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), will hold a high-level "Global Civil-Military Aviation Summit" on 22 June 2023, following an ice-breaker evening event on 21 June (between 18:00-20:00 CEST). Both events will take place at our Brussels headquarters.

The Summit will bring together top civil and military leaders from the wider aviation community to exchange views on the future evolution of civil-military cooperation towards a sustainable and efficient global aviation system, which is jointly and flexibly managed.

At the event speakers will showcase best practices in the implementation of flexible use of airspace from around the world and trigger debates on how flexibility, enhanced by collaborative decision making and interoperability, could deliver improved civil flight efficiency and military mission effectiveness. They will also discuss how safety, security, sustainability and operational needs drive civil and military stakeholder decisions at times of peace and crisis.

With a constantly evolving aviation ecosystem featuring new entrants and new technologies, which is increasingly challenged by global crises, we need to take a closer look at the future evolution of airspace requirements and build a clearer picture of what needs to be done so that they can be addressed safely, efficiently and flexibly from both civil and military perspectives.

The Summit will achieve high level commitment and is expected to be followed by technical workshops to support the implementation of civil-military cooperation.

About this event

The Summit brought together top civil and military leaders from the wider aviation community to exchange views on the future evolution of civil-military cooperation towards a sustainable and efficient global aviation system, which was jointly and flexibly managed.

At the event, speakers showcased best practices in the implementation of flexible use of airspace from around the world and triggered debates on how flexibility, enhanced by collaborative decision making and interoperability, could deliver improved civil flight efficiency and military mission effectiveness. They also discussed how safety, security, sustainability, and operational needs drove civil and military stakeholder decisions at times of peace and crisis.

With a constantly evolving aviation ecosystem featuring new entrants and new technologies, which was increasingly challenged by global crises, we needed to take a closer look at the future evolution of airspace requirements and build a clearer picture of what needed to be done so that they could be addressed safely, efficiently, and flexibly from both civil and military perspectives.

The Summit recognised the need to continue to work together to strengthen civil-military cooperation in aviation and to support the implementation of FUA globally.
