Improving gender diversity has been one of EUROCONTROL's core priorities for many years.
Back in 2019, only 29% of our staff were women - a figure that clearly highlighted the need for significant change. Since then, we've made steady progress through targeted initiatives. Our strategic HR efforts have focused on increasing visibility and appeal to women through enhanced social media and web presence, alongside active participation in outreach events such as Girls in Aviation and Women in Tech.
These actions have contributed to a gradual but meaningful shift in our overall gender distribution. Our workforce composition has improved from 71:29 to 68.9% male and 31.1% female as of May 2025. Most encouragingly, women made up 39% of new recruits in 2023 - our highest intake to date.
In 2024, we reached a major milestone in our gender equality journey with the formation of a gender-balanced top leadership team for the first time. This historic achievement includes three women on the board of directors, demonstrating our commitment at the highest organisational level.
Our external efforts to attract more women have been matched by internal improvements. We've implemented more diverse selection panels that ensure a wider range of perspectives and support fairer hiring outcomes throughout the recruitment process.
Whilst we celebrate this progress, we recognise that achieving true gender equality remains an ongoing commitment that requires sustained effort and continuous improvement across all levels of our organisation
