EUROCONTROL Stakeholder Forum on hydrogen planes

Hydrogen-powered planes: can we turn the dream into reality?
Stakeholder forum

Modern planes use kerosene as fuel, releasing harmful carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. But what if planes could use alternative energy source for planes that do not producing any harmful emissions?

Hydrogen is one of the most promising potential solutions. Planes using hydrogen – which could enter the market as soon as 2035, recent research suggests – would emit only water, and initial tests suggest they can be just as fast as traditional planes, carrying more than a hundred passengers per flight over thousands of kilometres.

While there are still significant challenges to overcome, hydrogen planes offer a path to a greener future, with aviation continuing to play an essential role in a decarbonised world.

Our webinar will dive into this complex matter and explore the following questions:

Hydrogen-powered planes: can we turn the dream into reality?

  • Is it realistic to expect hydrogen-powered planes by 2035?
  • What are the financial, technical, operational and logistical challenges that need to be addressed?
  • What is the potential in terms of environmental efficiencies?
  • Will new airframe designs require new airport infrastructure?

We’ve lined up three industry leaders for this webinar, in which they’ll be sharing expert insights and outlining a set of programmes and ideas that can help the European aviation industry meet its ambitious sustainability targets.
