EUROCONTROL will host the upcoming European CISM Conference organised by ENAIRE on 13 and 14 October 2022. The conference will provide the setting to understanding how Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) is crucial in managing stress in ATM.
CISM is an important system of techniques, tactics and ways of thinking are key to ensure the well-being of people working in high-stress jobs, such as air traffic controllers. It helps controllers manage stress reactions and prevent psychological damage associated with unusual and stressful events, and maintain their ability to continue to carry out their primary function of separating aircraft and looking after aircraft safety in an effective and efficient manner, without detriment to their own psychological well-being.
As the last two years have shown us, unexpected stressors can catch the global CISM community by surprise. Throughout 2022, the aviation sector in Europe and worldwide continues to face new challenges. This conference will bring together European ATM organisations and other industries experts to discuss how best to build and adapt established ways of worked to best serve our communities.
This is a hybrid event with online broadcast and the possibility of physical attendance.

Human Factors Webinar: Human Capabilities and LimitationsTargeting operational personnel and managers who need to understand the basics of human factors in ATM. An understanding of human performance leads people to recognise how multiple influences throughout the entire aviation system can affect a service provider’s safety performance during day-to-day operations. The aviation system is globally and technologically interlinked. Having a broad picture of the system, how and where people work within the system, and the influences upon them, enables regulators to develop and adapt effective regulations and oversight methodologies. This in turn supports people to do their best for the safety of the aviation system. This broad view extends the focus beyond minimum standards towards ways in which the regulator can support safety enhancements within their State, their region and internationally. |

eTOKAI, the EUROCONTROL tool kit for ATM occurrence investigationsPresentation in English by EUROCONTROL The tool-kit for ATM occurrence investigations (TOKAI) is a web-based application that enables users to report, investigate and take corrective actions following incidents and accidents, known as ‘occurrences’. TOKAI enables users to replace many legacy systems, starting with paper forms, in order to adopt modern electronic tools. It is suitable for use in operational, engineering and support environments. Recently ENAIRE HF department has implemented a way to capture fatigue and stress issues using eTOKAI through separating the occurrence investigation from HF fatigue and stress evaluation. |
