EUROCONTROL and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) jointly organised a workshop on Satellite Navigation Under Threat: From Safety Risk to Coordinated Responses, on 7–8 July 2026 at EUROCONTROL Headquarters in Brussels.

The workshop was organised within the framework of the European Aviation Action Plan for Ensuring Safe Operations during GNSS Interferences, jointly developed by EASA and EUROCONTROL in response to the growing operational impact of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) across European and neighbouring airspace.

The event brought together regulators, air navigation service providers, aircraft operators, manufacturers and international organisations to review progress, share operational experience and coordinate ongoing activities aimed at strengthening aviation resilience to GNSS RFI.

Building on previous EASA–IATA PNT Resilience Workshops, the event showcased the work of the GNSS RFI Action Plan Task Force and highlighted how regulatory, operational and technical communities are working together to address emerging operational risks and develop coordinated responses.

Session 1: Airline Perspective

In its Workstream 1, the EASA-EUROCONTROL GNSS RFI Action Plan sets out actions focused on supporting flight crews in handling disruption due to satellite navigation signal interference. This session invites airline representatives to debate whether these actions are on the right track and identify what needs to be fixed first. The five operational priorities set out in the Plan include: crew situational awareness through non-installed GNSS detectors and EFB tools; standardised phraseology for interference events; harmonised procedures for spurious TAWS alerts; FSTD simulation of GNSS RFI conditions; and crew training requirements.

Session 3: Technology Evolution — Aircraft and Avionics

Session 3 – Technology Evolution - Aircraft & Avionics will focus on the navigation system’s resilience to GNSS RFI. After having covered in detail the operational mitigation implemented by flight crew and ATCOs, we will now explore how technology evolution will relieve the burden and try to answer the question "why is it not yet there?"
