Climate Risks Analysis - Webinar

Our EUROCONTROL Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre (MUAC) hosted a webinar on Climate Risks Analysis on 9 October 2025, between 11.00-12.30 (CET). The webinar explored the impacts of climate change on air navigation service providers, the evolving regulatory landscape and adaptation strategies.

The webinar was the opportunity to:

  • discover how climate change affects air navigation service providers
  • understand the importance of carrying out climate risk assessments
  • explore the latest CSRD and ESG regulatory frameworks and EU funding mechanisms for businesses
  • learn how one of Europe’s leading ANSPs, NATS, is dealing with the risk and challenges associated with climate change.

The effects and impacts of climate change will vary according to geographical location, the current and projected climate and the type of organisation. This presentation will identify key climate change effects and impacts for Air Navigation Service Providers’ operations, infrastructure, and personnel.
It will highlight the importance of organisations carrying out climate risk assessments to identify risks and vulnerabilities and discuss the importance of integrating climate risks into organisational risk management. Finally, it will examine some of the adaptation measures available to reduce climate risks and increase resilience.

Session 2: Latest CSRD regulatory provisions, EU Funding mechanisms

This presentation will provide an overview of the latest regulatory provisions under the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting, focusing on climate change adaptation and climate risks. It will mainly explore how businesses are being required to disclose their climate-related risks and any adaptation strategies expanding to existing metrics and indicators. The session will also briefly cover existing EU funding mechanisms for financing climate adaptation infrastructure, highlighting the funding opportunities available to support resilience-building projects. Attendees could gain insights into the evolving regulatory landscape enabling opportunities for integrating climate risk management into corporate and infrastructure planning.

Session 3: NATS climate change adaptation plan
11:55 - 12:15 Florence Gard (NATS)
This presentation focuses on the work NATS have completed to develop a Climate Change Adaptation Plan. This presentation will touch on the climate risk reporting legislation and frameworks that NATS have built, the fundamentals of NATS adaptation plan on, a view of how NATS govern their climate risks, and a brief overview of NATS climate risk analysis. It will focus on NATS’ key physical and transition risks and the actions NATS are taking to reduce both their likelihood of occurring and overall impact, to ensure NATS continue to deliver a safe and reliable service.
