Altimetry System Error Workshop

The invisible risk. Still a problem?
In collaboration with
Federal Aviation Administration
An abstract representation of altimetry system errors.

Altimetry System Error (ASE) is an often unknown aircraft characteristic which can have a significant and detrimental impact on aircraft separation, but which occurs unnoticed by pilots, controllers and ACAS.

ASE can only be monitored in an operational environment by dedicated height monitoring, utilising specialised systems and techniques. It is important that both State authorities and aircraft operators (civil and military), understand the implications of ASE and know how to respond when receiving reports of aircraft with poor ASE characteristics from the Regional Monitoring Agencies who are tasked with monitoring responsibilities.

EUROCONTROL and the U.S. Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) are jointly organising a workshop focusing on Altimetry System Error (ASE), its causes, how it is detected, how it should be managed and its effect on the operational environment.

What to expect

The workshop will introduce the role of the Regional Monitoring Agencies (RMA) and the techniques they use to estimate ASE in the operational environment. It will provide an overview of the technical and operational requirements, which apply to both state authorities and operators for aircraft to operate in RVSM airspace.

Presenters from aircraft and avionics manufacturers, providers of aircraft RVSM compliance modification packages, and other experts will present technical information related to aircraft height keeping performance.

RMAs will present real life case studies, guidance on managing ASE and how state authorities and operators need to interact with their accredited RMA to maintain the safety and efficiency of the ATM environment.

Join us!

Participants will leave the workshop with a clearer understanding of the causes of ASE and its effects. Whether regulator or operator, they will have an improved understanding of the risks of ASE and be better prepared to act appropriately in the event of receiving a report of an aircraft with poor ASE characteristics.

Attendance

The workshop and its contents are designed for State certification aviation authorities, aircraft operators, maintenance organisations (CAMO), regulators and equipment manufacturers. Registrations have now closed. Only registered attendees will be granted access to the event.

Photography and filming

There will be photography and/or filming at this event and your image may be captured by us and used for communications purposes in print or on our website. By registering for the event you are giving us permission to use your image in this way. If you have any questions, contact us.
