From 2000 to 2004, Judith worked in the Legal Department of DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung as “Syndikusanwalt”. She studied law at the Universities of Trier (1. Staatsexamen) and East Anglia (LL.M.) and was admitted to the Frankfurt Bar (2. Staatsexamen). The EUROCONTROL Legal Service advises the Director General in all legal and institutional aspects of the Organisation, which includes i.a. aviation law with a focus on ATM, European law, international law including the law of international organisations and international civil service law, as well as legal support to technical projects and representation in litigation.

Judith Schmitz was appointed Head of the EUROCONTROL Legal Service in January 2016, after having been a Senior Legal Expert with the Legal Service since 2004.
