Donal Handley has worked in the aviation industry for over 20 years and joined EUROCONTROL in January 2018. As Chief of Staff, he is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the implementation of the Director General’s mandate, coordination of strategic affairs across the Agency and managing the activities of the DG’s Cabinet. As Chair of EUROCONTROL’s Aviation Intelligence Committee, Donal plays a leading role in delivering aviation data to decision-makers and industry, a cornerstone of EUROCONTROL’s services. He oversees the Agency Management Board, business continuity planning, as well as strategic communication and stakeholder activities.
Prior to joining EUROCONTROL, he held various positions with the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) from 2004 to 2017, including the position of Head of Corporate Affairs (from 2012-17), with executive responsibility for Shareholder Relations; External & Internal Communications; International Affairs; Quality Management; Property; and Business Continuity. Other previous roles with the IAA included Functional Airspace Block Senior Manager; Commercial Manager; and Senior Business Analyst.
Prior to joining the IAA, he was a Senior Economic Analyst with the International Air Transport Association (IATA), based in London. Prior to IATA, he worked for Aer Lingus as an Economic Analyst in Dublin.
He has an honours Masters Degree (M.Econ.Sc) in European Economic & Public Affairs from University College Dublin, as well as an honours Bachelor of Arts Degree (B.A.) from University College Dublin.
