EUROCONTROL Sounds out 8.33 kHz Below FL195

The EUROCONTROL Agency is facilitating the decision-making process for 8.33 kHz Below FL195. To support this activity the Agency has prepared the following documents:
1/ A draft Business Case (version 0.5) which provides information on future VHF demand, the frequency planning benefits and costs for different 8.33 below FL195 scenarios, as well as initial planning information. Please note that it is planned to update the Business Case at a later date in line with the results from the Frequency Usage Study.

2/ A draft Safety Assessment report (version 1.2) which describes the accumulated results from a number of safety sessions on 8.33 kHz Below FL195. The document has been written in a form that is suitable for stakeholder consultation, and is not intended to represent a formal safety document.

It is intended to perform a detailled review of these documents at the 8.33 kHz Contact Persons meeting on 23-24 September, with a view to seeking feedback at the EUROCONTROL SCG and CMIC meetings to be held in October. These documents have been provided to you in draft form, to promote early awareness and feedback. We would welcome high-level comments, in particular with respect to:
  • the future VHF demand;
  • the phased implementation scenarios and potential timescales.
