Project South for TMA2010+ is conducted in association with ENAV and SICTA, and it also involves arrival systems manufacturer BARCO, and the Eurocontrol Experimental Centre at Brétigny.
This project is investigating the role of current AMAN systems in supporting particular P-RNAV applications, such as Point Merge. It intends to identify any additional ground-system support requirements that might be needed in this type of implementation.
A series of controller-in-the-loop simulations are planned for the project, with controllers from Rome ACC, which will also interlace with other prototyping work and simulation activity already ongoing between ENAV Rome and EEC Brétigny. Simulations are currently planned for early 2009 and early 2010.
As well as assisting in Point Merge developments for Rome, the planned simulations will feed general AMAN requirements and also help in Point Merge implementation activity elsewhere [Norway and Ireland].
