Episode 3 [EP3] is a consolidated validation activity, initiated by the European Commission, that is taking a detailed ‘first-look’ at SESAR and the operational concept being developed through SESAR for the 2020 timeframe.
The project involves, amongst others, ANSPs, Industry and Avionics implementers, and the aim of the project is to deliver, through various methods of validation [Gaming, Modelling, Fast-time and Real-time simulations] Operational Services/Environment Descriptions [OSEDs] to the SESAR partners and stakeholders, with evidence that SESAR is safe-in-principle, and is operationally and technically viable.
Part of the EP3 ‘validation strategy’ will be the use of ‘Expert Groups’. These will assess the operability, safety and human factors issues involved in the move to the new ATM. These Expert Groups will also assist with the development of appropriate validation scenarios.
The TMA2010+ Project is an active participant in these Expert Groups.
