The Development Phase (2008-2013) has started and will produce the required new generation of technological systems and components as defined in the European ATM Master Plan.
In order to federate research & development efforts in the Community and organise and coordinate this Development Phase of SESAR, a joint undertaking has been created under European Community law, on 27th of February 2007: the SESAR Joint Undertaking

SESAR Joint Undertaking (SESAR JU) |
The objectives and tasks assigned to the SESAR JU are to:
- Secure the appropriate funding for the Programme and concentrate all relevant European R&D resources into SESAR
- Define and update the SESAR Work Programme in accordance with work progress. The Work Programme will be organised into detailed work packages, for which the SESAR JU will either:
- Allocate tasks and responsibilities to its members, or
- Launch call for tenders
- Ensure consistency, efficiency and technical progress on all aspects of the Work Programme
- Report on the results of the Development Phase and prepare relevant actions for the implementation of these results.
