Safety Assessment of New Operational Concepts |
In the context of the Single European Sky, a variety of concepts for advanced airspace management are discussed.
New operational concepts aim at providing increased capacity and safety. The new concepts consider that all airspace is homogeneous and subject to the same airspace rules. Controllers will be qualified to provide an air traffic control service in relation to a generic sector rather than a specific sector. New technologies will be interoperable across air traffic control services.
Benefits should arise from the implementation of a single operational culture, reduced complexity of both traffic and procedures and a move towards a more adaptive, less reactive, control model.
The Safety Domain is working in cooperation with projects on new operational concepts to help realise the key safety benefits by:
- defining the future safety concepts
- extending current safety cases by human reliability assessment
- comparing different methodologies for safety assessment
- developing dynamic risk modelling for concept evaluation
