ISO 9001 Certification

The Quality Management System that covers the data services of the Information Management division has been certified to the ISO 9001:2008 standard.

ISO 9001 is an internationally recognised standard for Quality Management Systems requirements. It applies to the processes that create and control the products and services an organisation supplies. It prescribes systematic control of activities, to ensure that the needs and expectations of customers are met.

The data services covered by the QMS include the activities of :

  Cartography service (CARTO)
Central Office for Delay Analysis (CODA)
  Data Warehouse and Solutions (PRISME)
  Statistics and Forecasts (STATFOR)
Within each area, products and services are delivered to customers on a continuous basis using a process based approach. It was decided that the ISO 9001 model was well matched with the requirements of these services for Quality Management, and that the full alignment of the QMS with ISO 9001 demonstrates that the QMS is fit for purpose and emphasises the strong customer focus within the data services.

The QMS was developed by examining the existing processes within each service, documenting these, then analysing them to identify possible improvements. New processes were created where gaps with the standard were identified, in particular a comprehensive cycle of Internal Audits and Reviews were defined to fully implement the continuous improvement model that forms the core of ISO 9001.

In June 2009 the QMS was subjected to an audit against the ISO 9001:2008 standard by Lloyds Register (QA), an internationally recognised certification organisation. The outcome was that the QMS met the requirements of the standard, with no nonconformities being identified. The certification is valid for a 3 year period, with Lloyd’s Register conducting surveillance audits on a yearly basis.

The data services within Information Management are proud of their achievement in gaining ISO 9001:2008 certification, and are firmly committed to ensuring that a high level of quality is maintained for all activities they conduct, for the full period of the certification and beyond.
