SweDen 98 real-time simulation

This report describes a EUROCONTROL real-time simulation study of the Kübenhavn, Malmü, and Stockholm flight information regions which was conducted for CAA Denmark and CAA Sweden. The study was closely related to the DSI project, evaluating the DSI human machine interface prototype. The underlying system functionality was supporting the human machine interface as it is foreseen in the area control centres and approach units within the simulated airspace, including medium term conflict detection, on-line data interchange, civil-military co-ordination and safety nets. The simulation was designed to complement a previous simulation (S12 - SweDen 96) which had provided a more general experience of a stripless electronic environment. The S19 simulation facility more closely represented the specified Danish and Swedish system elements, including smaller civil and military approach units, and allowed evaluation of additional features. The simulation was also focused on the learning process when bringing controllers from the present strip-based systems to a more modern integrated system. Finally the simulation was set-up to provide data supporting the national administration creating a safety case for their future systems.
