ASTERIX (All-purpose Structured EUROCONTROL Surveillance Information Exchange) specification

17 December 2012

On 16 October 2012, a new ASTERIX Part 1, the overarching component of the ASTERIX documentation, was published. Its publication falls within the new context arising from Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No 1207/2011 of 22 November 2011 laying down requirements for the performance and the interoperability of surveillance for the single European sky.

Publication, which was a requirement, also provided an opportunity to ensure administrative maintenance of this crucial EUROCONTROL specification. The document has remained unchanged in terms of content but has been improved in format. The reformatting of Part 1 allowed the removal of some obsolete references and the inclusion of a traceability table with references to relevant provisions of Regulation No 1207/2011.

Owing to changes in the regulatory framework applicable in particular to the publication of EUROCONTROL specifications, ASTERIX Part 1 is now published under the EUROCONTROL Regulatory and Advisory Framework (ERAF).

As far as working arrangements are concerned, the maintenance of the ASTERIX documents is the responsibility of the ASTERIX Management Group, the creation of which was approved at the last CNS Team meeting (21-22 November 2012).
