Over many years EUROCONTROL has developed a strong relationship with the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, with the military experts within the EUROCONTROL Agency providing the focal point for this contact, in particular with the staff of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation Air Defence and Airspace Management Directorate.
This relationship and mutual participation in Civil/Military ATM related activity has lead to the successful implementation of a number of EUROCONTROL capacity enhancing programmes, of which RVSM and 8.33 kHz channel spacing are particularly significant.
Finally and to foster airspace security , a joint NATO/EUROCONTROL ATM Security Co-ordinating Group (NEASCOG) has been set up to develop technical and procedural options to enhance civil-military co-ordination and system interoperability.
An agreed action plan is producing tangible results with a view to implementing best practices and standards, e.g. with regard to training programme, definitions, positive flight identification system, airspace security incident management support system, et al.
