The aim of FAB CE is to ensure optimal use of the central European airspace.

Indeed, to meet the future needs of a growing air travel and transport industry, European Air Traffic Management (ATM) needs to become even more flexible, harmonised and seamless.

Structuring the European airspace in blocks independent of national boundaries, the so-called functional airspace blocks (FABs), will optimise airspace usage and capacity. Functional airspace blocks will therefore minimise restrictions related to air traffic control and maximise airport throughput.

Several areas in Europe, and this includes Central Europe (CE), have a high air traffic density. Creating a functional airspace block in Central Europe (FAB-CE) is therefore on the agenda of 7 States/air navigation service providers in this region.

FAB Central Europe has now entered its Preparatory Phase.
