Second Global Air Navigation Industry Symposium (GANIS/2) and First Safety and Air Navigation Implementation Symposium (SANIS/1)

11 - 15 December 2017

On 11–15 December 2017, ICAO will host the second Global Air Navigation Industry Symposium (GANIS/2) and the first Safety and Air Navigation Implementation Symposium (SANIS/1) at its Montreal’s headquarters. This is a key event for the evolution of the global aviation system.

Under the theme of “sustainability and enhancement of safety and air navigation system performance”, the symposia will identify ways and means of maximising the use of available and emerging technologies and concepts of operations in order to ensure global interoperability. These symposia will help outline the evolutions of the next editions of the Global Air Navigation Plan (GANP), the Global Aviation Safety Plan (GASP) and the Aviation System Block Upgrades (ASBUs) framework for endorsement by the ICAO Global Assembly in 2019.

EUROCONTROL is involved in many of the key areas which are at the heart of the future aviation system. It is therefore no surprise that we will be playing a significant role in these symposia. Our contribution is part of the Single European Sky effort, comprising the SESAR Joint Undertaking, the Deployment Manager, the European Defence Agency and the European Aviation Safety Agency.

More specifically, we will be contributing to the discussions on the following topics:

  • Civil/military cooperation
  • European plan for the prevention of runway incursions
  • Global aeronautical distress and safety system
  • Information management
  • Meteorology
  • Modernisation of air navigation services
  • Modernisation of air navigation services, the added value of a performance-based approach: the Network Manager
  • Navigation

At the event, we will also be part of the Single European Sky stand showcasing key European developments for improved air navigation system performance.
