Over the three days of the show, EUROCONTROL’s experts will deliver a series of 30-minute briefings on the key developments shaping today’s and the future air traffic management (ATM) system. Visitors will have a unique opportunity to hear the latest on a wide range of topics which we are working on together with our aviation partners in order to deliver greater ATM performance on local and global levels. At the same time, visitors will have a chance to ask questions and network with our experts.

In the afternoon of the first day we will have a dedicated session on disruptive technologies through a presentation of our 2016 Hackathon event, which saw participants facing the challenge of developing a more flexible version of EUROCONTROL's surveillance–data exchange software, known as ASTERIX. This will be followed by a presentation on our ongoing air traffic controller student competition – featuring a presentation of the air traffic controller job, what it takes to become an air traffic controller and the selection process.

On this page you have the full programme of our briefings. Make sure you bag a seat by showing up at our stand in good time!

Surveillance infrastructure rationalisation

Jean-Marc Duflot, Surveillance Products and Services Manager, EUROCONTROL

There is a common interest in Europe to harmonise surveillance data processing infrastructure components with the three-fold objective of high performance, increased interoperability and economic efficiencies. EUROCONTROL’s surveillance products ARTAS (ATM Surveillance Tracker and Service), SDDS (Surveillance Data Distribution System) and SASS-C (Surveillance Analysis Support System for ATC Centres) are recognised enablers of such rationalisation.

The role of air traffic management in the implementation of ICAO’s Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA)

Rachel Burbidge, Environment Policy Officer, and
Stefano Mancini, Aviation Environment Performance Manager, EUROCONTROL

Formally adopted at ICAO's 39th Assembly, CORSIA was hailed as an historic development. 66 states have volunteered to be included in CORSIA from the beginning.

An important contribution to the implementation of  the global market based measures (GMBM) will be the support provided to build the capabilities within States and with aircraft operators to comply with the monitoring, reporting and verification processes necessary to ensure that CO2 emissions are being correctly accounted for

Having worked with the EC on the aviation element of the EU’s ETS (Emissions Trading Scheme) for over ten years and having delivered more than 1,000 annual emissions reports on air traffic and emissions data to aircraft operators, we have amassed considerable expertise in GMBM. We are in a position to help the global community develop technical material and to give them the confidence that the GMBM can work.

This talk will highlight how the ATM sector could also play a role in building capacity and providing support to the implementation of the CORSIA.
